Vance is best known for the Mercedes-Benz U.S. International plant, and the plant has changed the area around it. Since the late 1990s, new subdivisions have filled in around Vance, Brookwood and Lake View, many of them all-electric homes with heat pumps. Those first systems are now 15 to 25 years old – right in the window where compressors, reversing valves and coils start to fail.
