A new air conditioner, sized and installed right
A new AC system is one of the bigger purchases a homeowner makes, and in Alabama it is one you use almost every day for half the year. Getting it right matters more than the brand on the label: the right size for your house, ductwork that can move the air, a clean refrigerant line set and correct wiring decide whether the new system keeps you comfortable for 15 years or struggles from day one.
Alabama Heating And Air Services installs and replaces central air conditioners, heat pumps and complete systems for homes and businesses in Bessemer, McCalla, Hueytown and the surrounding area. We help you choose the make and model that fits your home and your budget, and our HVAC and electrical team work hand in hand so the new unit has everything it needs to run safely and efficiently.
When is it time to replace your AC?
- The system is 12–15 years old or more and needs a major repair.
- It still uses R-22 refrigerant, which is no longer produced – recharging it gets more expensive every year.
- The compressor or outdoor coil has failed.
- Some rooms never cool down, the house stays humid, or power bills keep climbing.
- You are adding rooms, finishing a bonus room or switching from a floor furnace or window units to central air.
If a repair still makes sense, we tell you – see AC repair.
Choosing the right system
Size. Bigger is not better. An oversized unit cools the air fast but shuts off before it removes the humidity, leaving the house cold and clammy – a real problem in Alabama. We size the system to your home: square footage, insulation, windows, sun exposure and the ductwork you have.
Efficiency. Since 2023, new central air conditioners sold in the Southeast must meet at least 14.3 SEER2 (about 15 SEER). Higher-efficiency and variable-speed systems cost more up front but run longer at low speed, which saves power and pulls more moisture out of the air.
AC or heat pump? A heat pump is an air conditioner that can also heat your home, and it is a good fit for our mild winters. Many homes pair it with a gas furnace as backup. Read more about heat pumps.
Refrigerant. New systems built from 2025 use the newer, lower-impact refrigerants (such as R-454B). We install them to the manufacturer’s specifications.
How an installation works
- Home visit and options – we look at your current system, ducts, electrical and drainage and give you clear options with prices.
- Installation day – we protect your floors, remove the old equipment, set the new outdoor unit and indoor coil or air handler, install or reuse the line set, and connect the wiring, drain and thermostat.
- Start-up and testing – we check refrigerant charge, airflow and temperatures and make sure everything runs as it should.
- Clean-up – the old unit goes with us and we leave the work area clean.
